Classification of Indigenous group response
Usage
This classification applies only to those persons who identify as First Nations, Métis and/or Inuk (Inuit). These are the three groups defined as the Aboriginal peoples (referred to here as Indigenous peoples) of Canada in the Constitution Act, 1982, subsection 35(2).
The Classification of Indigenous group response classifies individual responses. However, the terms in this classification may also be used to classify persons (see Classification of Indigenous group). The definitions presented here for the terms "First Nations", "Métis" and "Inuk (Inuit)" reflect the use of these terms in both the classification of persons and the classification of responses. When presenting data on the Indigenous group response, only the definitions pertaining to the classification of responses should be used.
