Data and studies on households and housing as well as census families and economic families. A 'household' is a person or a group of people occupying the same dwelling.

There are private households and collective households, as well as households outside Canada. The studies and data on households describe the characteristics of persons occupying the dwelling, the type of household, the tenure, the number of household maintainers, the household income, the household size, and other variables.

The studies and data on housing describe the physical attributes of living quarters, not the persons occupying the dwelling.

There are two family types: the census family and the economic family. Census families are married couples or couples living common law with or without children, or lone parents with at least one child living in the same dwelling. Economic families are groups of two or more people living in the same dwelling who are related to each other by blood, marriage, common law, or adoption.
