Definition
Opposite/same-sex spouse or partner refers to whether a person who has a spouse or partner is the opposite sex as that spouse or partner or is the same sex.
Person refers to an individual and is the unit of analysis for most social statistics programs.
Derivation
'Opposite/same-sex spouse or partner of person' is derived from the responses to questions about the relationships among the people who live in the household and about the sex of each household member.
