This industrial sector covers the flow of metallic minerals from the extracting, smelting and refining of ores to the fabricating and wholesaling of semi-finished or finished metal products.

20 - Iron, Steel and Related Products

This subsector consists of groupings of companies primarily engaged in mining iron ore; manufacturing primary steel and iron and steel products; operating iron foundries; and wholesaling iron and steel in primary forms. The manufacturing of steel wire and wire products is covered here.

21 - Non-Ferrous Metals and Primary Metal Products

This subsector consists of groupings of companies primarily engaged in extracting, smelting and refining non-ferrous metal ores and fabricating non-ferrous metal into primary shapes and forms. The wholesaling of aluminum is covered here, the wholesaling of other metals is covered in Segment 229 - Other Metals and Metal Products Wholesaling.

22 - Fabricated Metal Products

This subsector consists of groupings of companies primarily engaged in manufacturing and wholesaling fabricated metal products. The manufacturing of machinery, transportation equipment and metal furniture are not covered here.
