Classification of residence on or off reserve

Status: This was the departmental standard from June 15, 2015 to September 13, 2022.

Statistics Canada works closely with Indigenous and Northern Affairs Canada (INAC; formerly Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada [AANDC]) to identify the reserves and the settlements to be included as CSDs. Furthermore, the inclusion of an Indian settlement is dependent upon the agreement of the provincial or territorial authorities.
