1 - Easily accessible area

The "easily accessible area" includes major Census Metropolitan Areas, and adjacent Census Agglomerations of Canada. It includes about 75% of the Canadian population and 21% of total Census Subdivisions (CSDs) in Canada. This category includes Census Subdivisions (CSDs) with RI score 0 to 0.2001.

2 - Accessible area

The "accessible area" includes some small Census Metropolitan Areas (CMAs) and other sub-urban Census Subdivisions of Canada. This category includes about 16% of the Canadian population and 25% of total Census Subdivisions. This category includes Census Subdivisions (CSDs) with RI score 0.2002 to 0.3269.

3 - Less accessible area

The "less accessible area" includes mostly small towns which are not in proximity to Census Metropolitan Areas. This category includes about 6% of the Canadian population and 31% of total Census Subdivisions in Canada. This category includes Census Subdivisions (CSDs) with RI score 0.3270 to 0.4546.

4 - Remote area

The "remote area" includes mostly remote residential areas with low population but are usually accessible by a means of transportation. This category includes about 2% of the Canadian population and about 15% of Canadian Census Subdivisions. This category includes Census Subdivisions (CSDs) with RI score 0.4547 to 0.6267.

5 - Very remote area

The "very remote area" includes mostly remote areas with very low population and are not connected by major transportation network. This category includes less than 1% of the Canadian population and about 7% of Canadian Census Subdivisions. This category includes Census Subdivisions (CSDs) with RI score 0.6268 to 1.
