7 - Trades, transport and equipment operators and related occupations
These occupations include trades supervisors and contractors, construction and mechanical tradespersons, operators of transportation and heavy equipment and trades helpers. These occupations are found in a wide range of industrial sectors, with many in the construction and transportation industries.
This category includes most of the apprenticeable trades, including all those related to the construction industry. Other occupations in this category usually require completion of college or vocational education programs combined with on-the-job training. Helpers obtain training on the job site. Progression to supervisory positions or self-employed contractor status is possible with experience. There is limited mobility or transferability of skills among occupations in this category due to specific apprenticeship, training and licensing requirements for most occupations.
72 - Industrial, electrical and construction trades
This major group comprises occupations in industrial, electrical and construction trades, which usually require three or more years of apprenticeship, or several years of work experience in the trade combined with related high school, college or industry courses. It includes occupations in machining, metal forming, shaping and erecting trades; electrical trades and electrical power line and telecommunications workers; plumbers, pipefitters and gas fitters; carpenters and cabinetmakers; masonry and plastering trades; and other construction trades, as well as related supervisors and contractors.
73 - Maintenance and equipment operation trades
This major group comprises occupations in maintenance and equipment operation trades, which usually require more than two years of apprenticeship or on-the-job training in the trade. It includes contractors and supervisors, maintenance trades and heavy equipment and transport operators; machinery and transportation equipment mechanics (except motor vehicles); automotive service technicians; other mechanics and related repairers; train crew operations occupations; crane operators, drillers and blasters; and printing press operators and other trades and related occupations, not elsewhere classified.
74 - Other installers, repairers and servicers and material handlers
This major group comprises other installer, material handler, repairer and servicer occupations with some secondary school education or on-the-job training. It includes other installers, repairers and servicers, longshore workers and material handlers.
75 - Transport and heavy equipment operation and related maintenance occupations
This major group comprises occupations in transport and heavy equipment operation and related maintenance which usually require completion of secondary school and a licence or certification. It includes motor vehicle and transit drivers, heavy equipment operators, other transport equipment operators and related maintenance workers.
76 - Trades helpers, construction labourers and related occupations
This major group comprises trades helpers, construction labourers and related occupations with some experience or some secondary school, and may require certification. It includes trades helpers and labourers; and public works and other labourers not elsewhere classified.
