Introduction
Purpose
The purpose of the Federal Jurisdiction Workplace Survey is to produce statistical information on the characteristics of workplaces under federal labour jurisdiction.
Authority
Collected under the authority of the Statistics Act, Revised Statutes of Canada, 1985, Chapter S-19
Confidentiality
Statistics Canada is prohibited by law from releasing any information it collects which could identify any person, business, or organization, unless consent has been given by the respondent or as permitted by the Statistics Act. Statistics Canada will use the information from this survey for statistical purposes.
Record linkage
To enhance the data from this survey and to minimize the reporting burden, Statistics Canada may combine it with information from other surveys or from administrative sources.
Reporting instructions
1. Please complete and submit this electronic questionnaire within 21 days of receipt.
2. Report all dollar amounts in Canadian dollars (CAN$).
3. When precise figures are not available, please provide your best estimates.
4. Report for the business specified in the coverage statement only if this business is under federal labour jurisdiction.
The Canada Labour Code defines federal work, undertaking or business as any work, undertaking or business that is within the legislative authority of Parliament, including, without restricting the generality of the foregoing:
(a) a work, undertaking or business operated or carried on for or in connection with navigation and shipping, whether inland or maritime, including the operation of ships and transportation by ship anywhere in Canada,
(b) a railway, canal, telegraph or other work or undertaking connecting any province with any other province, or extending beyond the limits of a province,
(c) a line of ships connecting a province with any other province, or extending beyond the limits of a province,
(d) a ferry between any province and any other province or between any province and any country other than Canada,
(e) aerodromes, aircraft or a line of air transportation,
(f) a radio broadcasting station,
(g) a bank or an authorized foreign bank within the meaning of section 2 of the Bank Act,
(h) a work or undertaking that, although wholly situated within a province, is before or after its execution declared by Parliament to be for the general advantage of Canada or for the advantage of two or more of the provinces,
