Description

Statistics Canada was asked by the federal government in 2003 to develop a "blueprint" for an on-going, comprehensive program of Aboriginal statistics that would meet the information needs of Aboriginal groups, governments and other stakeholders. This blueprint has come to be known as the Aboriginal Data Initiative (ADI). The funding for this two year feasibility study will end in March 2005, when Statistics Canada is required to report to Cabinet on its findings.

There are three parts to the ADI, one of which is the data development part. A pilot survey, the Survey of People Living on Reserve (SPLOR) has been developed as part of a broader assessment of improving the availability and quality of data from household surveys.

This is a sample survey with a cross-sectional design.

Statistics Canada is prohibited by law from releasing any information it collects which could identify any person, business, or organization, unless consent has been given by the respondent or as permitted by the Statistics Act. Various confidentiality rules are applied to all data that are released or published to prevent the publication or disclosure of any information deemed confidential. If necessary, data are suppressed to prevent direct or residual disclosure of identifiable data.

No public use microdata file will be produced by Statistics Canada and data will not be made available through the Data Liberation Initiative (DLI).
