These data are now collected by the Postsecondary Student Information System (PSIS, see the link in the "Documentation" section). PSIS is a national survey that enables Statistics Canada to provide detailed information on enrolments and graduates of Canadian postsecondary education institutions.
__________________________________________
The Trade/Vocational Enrolment Survey prior to 1992-93 provided a Canada-wide data on full-time enrolment and gradutes/completions in trade/vocational programs offered by community colleges, public technical schools and other similar institutions. The survey obtained aggregate counts of full-time students by program rather than student records.
Beginning in 1992-93 the requested method of reporting the data changed from aggregate to individual student records for both full and part-time enrolment.
One of the main users of the information is Human Resources Development Canada to analyse labour force supply.
The types of programs collected by the survey consist of Pre-Employment or Pre-Apprenticeship programs, Registered Apprenticeship programs, Pre-Vocational Academic Upgrading or Basic Training for Skill Development (B.T.S.D.) programs, Language Training programs, Skill Upgrading programs, Basic Job Readiness Training programs, Orientation programs and Special Training programs.

Data sources and methodology
Sampling
This survey is a census with a cross-sectional design.
Data are collected for all units of the target population, therefore, no sampling is done.
Data sources
Responding to this survey is mandatory.
Data are collected directly from survey respondents and extracted from administrative files.
The survey requests enrolment and graduate/completion data on all students in trade/vocational programs in public community colleges, technical schools and similar institutions.
View the Questionnaire(s) and reporting guide(s).
Imputation
Estimation is required at times for missing colleges and technical schools and is based on information obtained from the institution and the historical reporting of the institution and also the overall trend of similar institutions in the province for the reporting year.
Estimation
This methodology type does not apply to this statistical program.
Disclosure control
Statistics Canada is prohibited by law from releasing any information it collects that could identify any person, business, or organization, unless consent has been given by the respondent or as permitted by the Statistics Act. Various confidentiality rules are applied to all data that are released or published to prevent the publication or disclosure of any information deemed confidential. If necessary, data are suppressed to prevent direct or residual disclosure of identifiable data.
Data accuracy
While the survey does request both full-time and part-time information, the quality of the part-time data up to now has been disappointing. The part-time information is requested every survey year, but several of the institutions and jurisdictions are still unable to report complete and accurate information.
Some of the variables requested have very high rate of non-response, such as mother tongue, immigration or legal status, country of citizenship, date of entry into Canada, geographic source of student, previous activity and previous education.
