Data release - Every Monday, starting December 10, 2018
Description
The statistical program produces data that can help shippers make better transportation decisions or at least better understand the current operating conditions of the rail transportation system.
The first release of this data occurred on December 10, 2018, covering the one-week reference period of November 24 to November 30, 2018.
Subsequent releases take place every subsequent Monday, covering the subsequent one-week reference periods.
The data that is released on Monday always refers to a period (week) that ended 10 days before the date of release.
Reference period: Week ending 10 days before the data release date. (The first and last day of the week may vary between railways and between tables. See table footnotes.)
Collection period: In the first five days following the reference week.

Data sources
Responding to this survey is mandatory.
The data is collected directly from railways who send files for each table to Transport Canada for validation and transfer to Statistics Canada

Data is verified to ensure integrity and identify any inconsistencies. Railways are asked to clarify any questionable data.

Statistics Canada is prohibited by law from releasing any information it collects that could identify any person, business, or organization, unless consent has been given by the respondent or as permitted by the Statistics Act. Various confidentiality rules are applied to all data that are released or published to prevent the publication or disclosure of any information deemed confidential. If necessary, data are suppressed to prevent direct or residual disclosure of identifiable data.
This data is collected under the Canada Transportation Act, which specifically allows its full disclosure, including the identity of the respondent.
