The purpose of this survey was to collect information on current levels of operation. The results, which provided an early indication of trends in the Canadian economy, were used extensively by the Canadian Soft Drink Association, food and beverage manufacturers, aluminium manufacturers, and investment houses.

Sampling
This survey is a census with a cross-sectional design.
Estimation
Carbon dioxide (CO2) use is based on CO2 deliveries to soft drink bottlers by the CO2 manufacturers. This volume is multiplied by a conversion factor (revised regularly) to obtain an estimate of soft drink production.
