The purpose of this pre-contact questionnaire is to collect information about heat energy production in Canada. Your answers will help determine if your establishment qualifies for a potential new survey being considered for this industry, or if new questions should be added to an existing survey instead.

Data release - No release

Description

Determine if the businesses generate heat energy, measure the heat energy, whether it is for own use or for sale, and identify the fuels used to generate the heat energy. Also ask if the business or company generates cooling energy.

No results will be published.

Results to provide a clean heat energy frame on the Business Register.

Determine if heat energy questions will be added to the EPTG survey or perhaps create a stand-alone heat energy survey in the future.

Data sources and methodology

Target population

All NAICS establishments that generate large amounts of heat.

Instrument design

This questionnaire was designed in order investigate potential solutions for current data gaps. Research was done on the current state of heat energy information in Canada. We consulted, heat surveys designed by other organizations and the EPTG survey program at Statistics Canada. Additionally, CPRD, Methodology and OID were all consulted during the questionnaire design. Testing was done by subject matter. This is the first and only instance of this survey, so no revisions have been or will be done.

Sampling

This survey is a census with a cross-sectional design.

Sampling unit: The establishment

The census frame was selected via research, such as cross-referencing with other databases, searching the Internet for relevant units and cross-referencing with similar and relevant Statistics Canada surveys.

Quality evaluation

This is the first and only questionnaire like this that will be created. The purpose is to develop a proper frame and to gather information about what information is available. There is not very much data like this that currently exists, so there will be no data validation.

Various confidentiality rules are applied to all data that are released or published to prevent the publication or disclosure of any information deemed confidential. If necessary, data are suppressed to prevent direct or residual disclosure of identifiable data.

Any micro-data that could be shared under data-sharing agreements will include, when necessary, removal of any identifying information, content reduction, content modification and respondent removal. Any tabular data will include, when necessary, cell collapsing or suppressing, revisions by committees, and/or revisions by data providers.
