Reference period of change - 2014
The Energy Research and Development Expenditures by Area of Technology survey was redesigned for reference year 2014.
The reference period was changed from the 12-month fiscal period ending in the calendar year, January 1st to December 31st of the reference year to the 12-month fiscal period ending between April 1st of the reference year and March 31st of the following year.
The survey content became an embedded module of the Research and Development in Canadian Industry (RDCI: SDDS 4201) survey. All pre-identified respondents with R&D expenditures on energy-related technology were included in the "must take" stratum of the RDCI. All 8,250 units within the RDCI sample can self-identify as having R&D expenditures on energy-related technology.
Content modifications follow:
Detailed categories for in-house R&D expenditures on energy-related by source of funds: funds from this organization (unchanged); funds from federal or provincial governments (unchanged); all other Canadian sources of funds (new, previously aggregated with all foreign sources of funds); and all foreign sources of funds (new, previously aggregated with all other Canadian sources of funds).
Detailed categories for outsourced (contracted out or granted) R&D expenditures for energy related technology: outsourced (contracted out or granted) in Canada (new); and outsourced (contracted out or granted) outside Canada (unchanged).
