Reference period of change - 2022
Starting with 2022 income data, some components included total income are derived using other data sources to improve their precision. Caution should be taken when comparing variables related to total income of 2022 and onward to prior years' data. The new methodology does not impact the values of charitable donations; RRSP contributions; and wages, salaries and commissions but may have an impact on the statistics related to total income included in the tables produced with the preliminary T1 Family File.
In 2022, the Canada Workers Lockdown Benefit program was the only COVID-19-related program still in effect to financially support Canadiens. Nevertheless, several governmental programs offering COVID-19 government income support and benefits in 2020 and 2021 have paid financial support retroactively in 2022 and are thus included in total income. In 2022, all COVID-19 benefits have been included in total income under other government transfers.

For 2021, COVID-19 - Government income support programs and benefits have been included in total income. They are included within the following income sources:
• Pension income;
• Provincial Refundable Tax Credits/Family Benefits; and
• Other government transfers.
More detail information regarding these will be included in the summer/fall releases of the T1FF 2021 final data.
Reference period of change - 2020
For 2020, COVID-19 - Government income support programs and benefits have been included in total income. They are included within the following income sources:
• Pension income;
• Child benefits;
• Federal Tax, Goods and Services Tax, Harmonized Sales Tax;
• Provincial Refundable Tax Credits/Family Benefits; and
• Other income.
More detail information regarding these will be included in the summer/fall releases of the T1FF 2020 final data.
Reference period of change - 2018
Estimation - In 2018, data on RRSP contributions has been re-introduced to this release. Data on wages, salaries and commissions for tax filers aged 15 and over has also been added to this release.
Reference period of change - 2017
Estimation - As of 2017, the data are no longer disseminated for investment income, taxable capital gains and RRSP contributions. These topics will instead be covers in 4105 "Annual Income Estimates for Census families and Individuals" which is based on the final version of the T1 Family File (T1FF).
Reference period of change - 2010
Estimation - As of 2010, the data are no longer disseminated at the postal walk level or at any level which could contain only one urban postal code.
Reference period of change - 2007
Disclosure control - Starting with 2007 data, no complementary suppressions will be done for counts and therefore other data cells will be preserved which were formerly suppressed. Complementary suppressions on aggregate and average amounts will still be done.
