Canadian Cancer Registry (CCR)

Summary of changes

Activity on this program started: 1992

Reference period of change - 2007

As of 2007, the CCR adopted SEER Multiple Primary Histology rules for determining multiple primaries. Some differences in incidence between the years 2006 and 2007 may be attributed to this change. As well, due to technical issues in updating systems to adhere to these new rules, not all registries were able to report according to the new requirements for 2007. This may result in inconsistencies between provinces and territories.

Reference period of change - 2004

In 2006, the CCR Redesign project was undertaken to migrate the old system from the Statistics Canada mainframe platform to a UNIX server environment. The Canadian Cancer Registry now includes new diagnostic variables as well as staging variables.
