Reference period of change - January 2016 to December 2017 (Cycle 5)

Imputation - Prior to cycle 5, household income was imputed for respondents who did not respond to the income questions.

Reference period of change - January 2014 to December 2015 (Cycle 4)

The target population consisted of persons 6 to 79 (cycle 1) 3 to 79 (cycle 2) years of age living in the ten provinces and territories. The observed population for both these cycles excluded also the collective dwellings.

1) Household questionnaire: Main changes: HPV and PAP smear questions were removed.

- Replacement of the International physical activity questionnaire with the physical activity for adults and the physical activity for youth from the Canadian Community Health Survey (CCHS).
- Replacement of selected questions or sets of questions to conform with Statistics Canada Harmonized Content.

2) Clinic questionnaire Fractional Exhaled Nitric Oxide (FENO) measure was dropped.

Collection sites' definition changed since the beginning of the survey in 2007. For cycles 1 and 2, they were limited to a radius of 50 km in urban areas and up to 100 km for rural areas.

Third stage: prior to cycle 2, the two age groups strata were: 6 to 11 year old and 12 to 79 year old. Since cycle 2, the two age groups were changed to 3 to 11 year old and 12 to 79 year old.

First stage: Prior to cycle 3, within the Prairies and Atlantic regions, sites were not sorted by province prior to selection.

Third stage: Prior to cycle 3, the sampling factors were only based on age group. The addition of sex to assigning the factors allowed for more flexibility for adjusting the factors for a specific age group by sex, as the sampling factors could be modified at the beginning of each site to react to collection results.

Prior to cycle 4, a regression model was used to predict the personal income of each member of all responding CHMS households instead of obtaining it from administrative files.

Sampling - The definition of collection site has changed since the beginning of the survey in 2007. In cycles 1 and 2 the collection site was limited to a 50 km radius in urban areas and up to 100 km for rural areas.

Target population - The target population consisted of persons 6 to 79 (cycle 1) 3 to 79 (cycle 2) years of age living in the ten provinces and territories. The observed population for both these cycles excluded also the collective dwellings.

Reference period of change - August 2009 to November 2011 (Cycle 2)

Target population - The CHMS covers the population 3 to 79 years of age living in the ten provinces and the three territories. Excluded from the survey's coverage are: persons living on reserves and other Aboriginal settlements in the provinces; full-time members of the Canadian Forces; the institutionalized population and residents of certain remote regions.

Reference period of change - Spring 2007 to Spring 2009 (Cycle 1)

Target population - The target population for the CHMS covers those individuals between 6 and 79 years of age living in privately occupied dwellings in the ten provinces and the three territories.
