Marriage of population, count
Marriage refers to the lawful union of two persons, conferring mutual rights and obligations on the spouses. Marriages must be registered by a provincial or territorial vital statistics registrar. Common-law unions and civil unions (in Quebec only) are not marriages.
Population refers to the total membership, based on specific characteristics, of a group of people, objects or events at a given time and within a particular geographic area.
