Stock of ecosystem extent accounts refers to the amount of ecosystem assets in an accounting period. In physical terms, stocks refer to the total quantity of ecosystem assets (e.g., extent in km2) at a given point of time. An account starts with an opening stock and ends with a closing stock. Changes between the beginning and the end of the accounting period are recorded as additions to the stock or removals to the stock.
Geographic area refers to areas whose boundaries are specifically delimited in accordance with well-defined concepts and which, in total, cover the entire landmass of Canada. It excludes Canadian territorial enclaves abroad.
