Index of change of population, index
Index of change refers to the variation of, for example, prices or wages as compared with a chosen base period. The base period is often represented by 100. The index acts as a statistical yardstick which is expressed in terms of percentages. Thus, an index number of 146 would indicate that the current period is 46% higher than in the base period.
Population refers to the total membership, based on specific characteristics, of a group of people, objects or events at a given time and within a particular geographic area.
