Marriage rate of population, ratio

Marriage rate refers to the number of marriages of people per 1,000 unmarried individuals (single, widowed and divorced, based on legal marital status), either restricted to males, females or considering both. It can also be reported for specific age groups.

Population refers to the total membership, based on specific characteristics, of a group of people, objects or events at a given time and within a particular geographic area.

The data for this variable are reported using the following measurements:

  • Crude marriage rate: per 1,000 population
  • Rate per 1,000 unmarried females
  • Rate per 1,000 unmarried males
