Mortality rate refers to the mortality during a specific time period, it can include all mortality (all causes of death combined) or selected causes of death. These counts are calculated as rates using the total population (all age groups) or sub-population.

Population refers to the total membership, based on specific characteristics, of a group of people, objects or events at a given time and within a particular geographic area.

The data for this variable are reported using the following measurements:

  • Age-standardized rate per 100,000 population
  • Crude mortality rate per 100,000 population
