Hierarchical structure

The structure of the CIP Canada 2016 variant for cannabis-related instructional programs is hierarchical. It is composed of three levels.

level 1: series (two-digit standard codes or three-character alphanumeric variant codes)
level 2: subseries (four-digit standard codes or five-character alphanumeric variant codes)
level 3: instructional program class (six-digit standard codes or seven-character alphanumeric variant codes)
