Couple family with children

Definition

Couple family with children refers to a census family that contains a married couple or a couple living common law and at least one child. The term 'two-parent family' can also be used when referring to a couple family with children.

    This is the current standard.

  • Couple family with children November 16, 2015 to May 25, 2021

    The previous standard made no reference to children being children by common-law unions. In this standard, common law unions have been added to the ways in which children can be associated to the couple family. In addition, a child having their own partner living in the dwelling has been added to the ways in which children are excluded from this statistical unit.

  • Couple family with children September 19, 2011 to November 15, 2015

    This was the departmental standard from September 19, 2011 to November 15, 2015.
