Definition

Departure from 1961-1990 normal temperature refers to the difference in Celsius degrees between the annual or seasonal mean temperature observed in a geographic area in a specified period as compared to the annual or seasonal mean temperature observed in that area in the period 1961 to 1990.

Geographic area refers to areas whose boundaries are specifically delimited in accordance with well-defined concepts and which, in total, cover the entire landmass of Canada. It excludes Canadian territorial enclaves abroad.
