K - Finance and Insurance Industries

71 - Consumer and Business Financing Intermediary Industries

Establishments primarily engaged in extending loans to and/or financing equipment, facilities, inventory and sales for businesses and individuals. Included in this Major Group are establishments of consumer loans companies and business finance companies.

712 - Business Financing Companies

Establishments primarily engaged in financing business operations including financing equipment, inventory, sales and facilities of a customer establishment. Included in this industry are establishments set up for the financing of small businesses, such as venture capital companies.

7121 - Sales Finance Companies

Establishments primarily engaged in the purchase of installment and credit card sales receivable from retail conditional sales to individuals and businesses. Some establishments are also engaged in financing wholesale conditional sales made by manufacturers to vehicle and equipment dealers. Included in this industry are establishments of independent sales finance companies and sales finance subsidiaries of manufacturers and retailers.

7122 - Credit Card Companies

Establishments primarily engaged in providing credit sales services to business entities such as retail stores and to consumers by providing the funds required in return for payments on an installment basis.

7123 - Factoring Companies

Establishments primarily engaged in either the outright purchase of, or lending on the pledge of, business accounts receivable (other than retail accounts receivable) with an undertaking to collect them.

7124 - Financial Leasing Companies

Establishments primarily engaged in making equipment and other assets available to a customer establishment without capital investment on the customer's part. The financial leasing company pays for and takes title to the equipment or facilities and leases it to the lessee while retaining few of the normal responsibilities of ownership. Establishments of operating leasing companies are classified in Industry Group 991 - Machinery and Equipment Rental and Leasing Services or in industry 9921 - Automobile and Truck Rental and Leasing Services.

7125 - Venture Capital Companies

Establishments primarily engaged in providing financing for new and small companies and for companies in a turn-around situation which cannot obtain financing from more conventional sources. These establishments may be registered under special provincial or federal legislation.

7129 - Other Business Financing Companies

Establishments primarily engaged in the financing of commercial activities not elsewhere classified. Included are establishments in merchant banking and establishments providing the following services interim financing and commercial mortgages, financing for export trade, or primarily engaged in financing the activities of subsidiary and affiliated companies and establishments of crown corporations and government agencies primarily engaged in the financing of business ventures.
