I - Construction and Related Activities

This industrial sector covers land development, general and special trade contracting, real estate operations and the wholesaling of building materials. General contracting here consists of the undertaking of complete projects which will cover all components varying proportions of which can be either sub-contracted to trade contractors or can be done by the general contractor's own labour force. The mining and manufacturing of non-metallic minerals and mineral products (except glass), the primary use of which is associated with construction activities, are covered here. Services incidental to building operations are also covered here.

40 - Real Estate Developers, Builders and Operators

This subsector consists of groupings of companies primarily engaged in land development, residential and non-residential building construction or in real estate operations. The manufacturing of pre-engineered and prefabricated buildings is covered here.

41 - Industrial, Highway and Heavy Engineering General Contracting

This subsector consists of groupings of companies primarily engaged in general contracting for the construction of projects other than buildings.

42 - Special Trade Contracting

This subsector consists of groupings of companies primarily engaged in one aspect common to different structures requiring specialized construction skills or equipment. Normally they supply the general contractor their specialized service but in repair construction, and to a lesser degree in new construction, trade contractors are often engaged as "prime contractors" or jobbers dealing directly with the principals involved.

43 - Services Incidental to Construction and Building Operations

This subsector consists of groupings of companies primarily engaged in providing services incidental to construction or building operations.

44 - Building Materials

This subsector consists of groupings of companies primarily engaged in manufacturing non metallic mineral products (except glass), and wholesaling building materials. The mining of asbestos and gypsum, and quarry and sand pit operations are covered here.
