8 - Natural resources, agriculture and related production occupations

These occupations include supervisors and equipment operators in the natural resource-based sectors of mining, oil and gas production, forestry and logging, agriculture, horticulture and fishing. Most occupations in this category are industry specific and do not occur outside of the primary resources industries.

Occupations within this category generally require completion of college or vocational education programs. Some of these occupations, however, are characterized by on-the-job training and progression through experience.

82 - Supervisors and technical occupations in natural resources, agriculture and related production

This major group comprises supervisors and technical occupations in natural resources, agriculture and related production, which usually require completion of secondary school and experience, and may require a college diploma, college or industry courses, a licence or certification. It includes logging and forestry supervisors; contractors and supervisors in mining, oil and gas; underground miners, oil and gas drillers and workers in related occupations; logging machinery operators; contractors and supervisors in agriculture, horticulture and related operations and services; and fishing vessel masters and fishermen/women.

821 - Supervisors, logging and forestry

This minor group includes supervisors in logging and forestry. They are employed by logging companies, contractors and government agencies.

822 - Contractors and supervisors, mining, oil and gas

This minor group includes supervisors in mining and quarrying; and contractors and supervisors in oil and gas drilling and services. They are employed by coal, metal and non-metallic mineral mines and quarries; drilling and well service contracting companies; and petroleum producing companies; or they may be self-employed.

823 - Underground miners, oil and gas drillers and related occupations

This minor group includes underground production and development miners; and oil and gas well drillers, servicers, testers and related workers. They are employed by coal, metal and non-metallic mineral underground mines; specialized contractors in mine construction, shaft sinking and tunnelling; drilling and well service contractors; petroleum producing companies; and well logging and testing companies.

824 - Logging machinery operators

This minor group includes logging machinery operators. They are employed by logging companies and contractors.

825 - Contractors and supervisors, agriculture, horticulture and related operations and services

This minor group includes agricultural service and landscaping and grounds maintenance contractors who own and operate their own businesses; farm supervisors and specialized livestock workers; and supervisors in landscaping, grounds maintenance and horticulture services. They are employed on livestock and other farms; by landscaping companies, cemeteries, lawn care and tree service companies, nurseries and greenhouses; and landscaping operations of public works departments and private establishments; or they may be self-employed.

826 - Fishing vessel masters and fishermen/women

This minor group includes fishing masters and fishing vessel officers; and fishermen/women who are usually self-employed owner-operators of fishing vessels. They are employed by establishments engaged in operating commercial fishing vessels; or they may be self-employed.
