1 - Census family person

This category includes persons who are members of a census family. A census family person can be a married spouse, a common-law partner, a lone parent or a child.

1.3 - Child in a census family

This category includes persons who are blood, step or adopted sons or daughters (regardless of age or marital status), as well as grandchildren in households where there are no parents present. Children do not live with their own married spouse, common-law partner or child.

1.3.1 - Son or daughter of only one married spouse/common-law partner in a couple (stepchild)

This category includes persons who are blood or adopted sons or daughters (regardless of age or marital status) of only one married spouse/common-law partner in a couple.

1.3.2 - Son or daughter of both married spouses/common-law partners in a couple, excluding stepchildren

This category includes persons who are blood or adopted sons or daughters (regardless of age or marital status) of both married spouses/common-law partners in a couple.

1.3.3 - Son or daughter of lone parent

This category includes persons who are blood or adopted sons or daughters (regardless of age or marital status) of a lone parent.

1.3.4 - Grandchild living with grandparent(s) with no parents present

This category includes persons who are grandchildren living with grandparent(s) with no parents present.
