It ranges from biomedical and clinical research to research focused on health services and population and public health, including all aspects of medical and surgical treatment, the provision of hospital and home care, and public health, mental health, prevention and wellness.

Many activities are targeted at populations such as health campaigns and health policies. Public health services also include the provision of personal services to individual persons, such as vaccinations, behavioural counselling, or health advice.
