Air Carrier Operations in Canada, Charter Services, Statement 12 (I, II, III)

Introduction

Purpose

This survey collects financial and operational data from the Canadian Level I and II air carriers.

The survey collects both financial data (balance sheet, revenue and expenses statement) and operating data (hours flown, passenger- kilometers, goods tonne-kilometers, etc) from the Canadian air transport industry.

Authority

Collected under the authority of the Statistics Act - Statutes of Canada 1985, Chapter S19 and the Canada Transportation Act, Section 50.

Reporting instructions

Level I and II air carriers - Statement 12 is to be filed by all Level I and II air carriers operating domestic or international charter air services. Statement 12 is to be filed quarterly on a calendar year basis and is due 60 days after the end of the quarter. If no service was provided during the year, a 'nil' report must be filed.

Level III air carriers - Statement 12 is to be filed by all Level III air carriers operating domestic or international charter air services. Statement 12 is to be filed annually on a calendar year basis and is due April 1. If no service was provided during the year, a 'nil' report must be filed.

Definitions

Level I air carriers - Includes all air carriers that, in each of the two years preceding the reporting year, carried at least one million revenue passengers, at least 200,000 tonnes of revenue goods, or both.

Level II air carriers - Includes all air carriers that, in each of the two years preceding the reporting year, carried one million or more revenue passengers, 30,000 or more tonnes of revenue goods, or both.

Level III air carriers - Includes all air carriers that, in each of the two years preceding the reporting year, derived gross revenues of more than one million dollars from their licensed air services.

Area of Operation

This refers to the region where an air carrier provided transportation services, categorized as follows:

Domestic - includes operations between points in Canada

Transborder - includes operations between a point(s) in Canada and a point(s) in the United States (including Puerto Rico, Hawaii and Alaska)

Transatlantic - includes operations between a point(s) in Canada and a point(s) in Europe, Africa and/or the Middle East

Southern - includes operations between a point(s) in Canada and a point(s) in Bermuda, the Caribbean, Mexico, Central America and South America

Pacific and Orient - includes operations between a point(s) in Canada and a point(s) in Asia and Australia

Other Foreign - includes operations between points outside of Canada
