Introductory Text

Hello this is ...... from Statistics Canada. I'm calling about the New Brunswick Wage Rate Survey that is being conducted on behalf of the province of New Brunswick, in partnership with the New Brunswick Career Development Action Group. The results of the survey will help governments and businesses by providing them with up-to-date information on the wages paid to workers in specific occupations and industries in New Brunswick. Your answers are collected under the authority of the Statistics Act and will be kept strictly confidential and used only for statistical purposes. While participation is voluntary, your assistance is essential if the results are to be accurate. Statistics Canada may combine your responses from this survey with information from other surveys or from administrative sources.

Please note that a supervisor may listen in for quality control purposes.

Preamble

Questions 3 to 9 are repeated for each occupation up to a maximum of 4 occupations. The first 4 occupations for which there is employment greater than 0 will be selected and the subsequent questions 3 to 9 will be asked.

Main Questions

Main Questions - Question identifier:Q1.

How many employees does this establishment CURRENTLY employ, excluding owners, contract workers and volunteers? 1. Employees from personnel agencies are considered as contract workers.

The following questions are about full-time employees in this establishment. For our purposes, full-time employees are defined as working 30 or more hours per week.

Main Questions - Question identifier:Q2.

How many full-time employees does this establishment CURRENTLY employ in the following occupations? If an employee has more than one occupation, then the occupation for which the employee spends the most number of hours should be assigned.

Interviewer note:
1. Include full-time and seasonal employees currently employed.
2. Exclude part-time employees, owners, contract workers and volunteers.

What is the USUAL number of hours worked per week by full-time (NOC#, occupation type), excluding overtime?

For (NOC#, occupation type) what is the usual STARTING wage for a full-time employee with NO experience? If possible, please give your answer in terms of an hourly wage.

Interviewer note:
1. Collect what would be the starting wage even if no one was hired in the last 12 months.
2. If wages are based on a criteria other than experience (e.g., level of education), ask the respondent for the lowest starting wage.

What is the frequency of the wage information you just provided? Is it hourly, daily, weekly, bi-weekly, twice per month, monthly or yearly?

Main Questions - Question identifier:Q6.

For (NOC#, occupation type) what is the usual STARTING wage for a full-time employee who has had one year of PREVIOUS experience? If possible, please give your answer in terms of an hourly wage.

Interviewer note:
1. Collect starting wage even if no one was hired in the last 12 months.
2. If wages are based on a criteria other than experience (e.g., level of education), ask the respondent for the lowest starting wage.

What is the MAXIMUM wage this establishment pays for full-time (NOC#, occupation type)? If possible, please give your answer in terms of an hourly wage.

What is the frequency of the wage information you just provided? Is it hourly, daily, weekly, bi-weekly, twice per month, monthly or yearly?

What is the AVERAGE wage paid to full-time (NOC#, occupation type) in this establishment? If possible, please give your answer in terms of an hourly wage.
