Additional information

REPORTS REQUIRED
Reports are required for mining activities located in Canada.
Separate reports should be completed by province for each type of metal and non-metal mining activity.

Included:
- Potash refineries
- Milling and pelletizing operations
- Electric generating plant if it is installed for use mainly at the mining site

Excluded :
- Exploration and development expenditures for oil and gas.
- Metal smelting and/or refining establishments. If the report is NIL, please complete and return questionnaires so that we may complete our file.

JOINT VENTURE
In the case of joint ventures, only the company responsible for the accounting records (the operator) should complete a report for the venture to avoid any duplication in reporting expenditures.

GRANTS, SUBSIDIES AND INVESTMENT TAX CREDITS Grants, subsidies and investment tax credits should not be netted from expenditures reported in Sections 1 and 2.

DOLLAR AMOUNTS AND PERCENTAGES
- All dollar amounts should be expressed in CANADIAN DOLLARS
- Percentages should be rounded (e.g., 37%, 76%, 94%)
- Your best estimates are acceptable when precise figures are not available
- Shaded areas indicate that no response is required
- Pre-printed numbers 055 to 872 are for identification purposes

Type of Ownership
Ownership is defined as the level of government, person, group of persons, agency or incorporated body controlling more than 50% of the voting rights.
NOTE: Financial assistance (grants, subsidies, etc.) provided by any level of government to an enterprise and/or institution does not necessarily constitute ownership of that organization. Please report expenditures for the period January 1 to December 31, (YYYY)*.

Authority

This survey is conducted jointly under the authority of the Statistics Act, Chapter S19, Revised Statutes of Canada 1985, the Department of Natural Resources Act, and the appropriate mining act and/or statistics act of the Provinces. Survey results are thus shared with the following agencies and the use of the data governed by these acts.

Confidentiality

Statistics Canada is prohibited by law from publishing any statistics which would divulge information obtained from this survey that relates to any identifiable business. The data reported on this questionnaire will be treated in strict confidence. The confidentiality provisions of the Statistics Act are not affected by either the Access to Information Act or any other legislation.

Data-sharing agreements

Data collected in these surveys on capital and repair expenditures are included in the publications Private and Public Investment in Canada - Catalogue No. 61-205 and in Capital Expenditures by Type of Assets. These publications serve analysts interested in assessing the employment potential for labour, materials and services as a result of these expenditures for additions and maintenance of fixed assets (productive capacity) in any year in each industry in each province and territory. Totals are published in a format that safeguards confidentiality as required by the Statistics Act. Federal-Provincial Agreements to Share Information: In order to avoid duplication and ease the burden on respondents, Statistics Canada has entered into the following data sharing agreements concerning this survey.

Under section 11 of the Statistics Act with the statistical bureaus of Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Quebec, Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, British Columbia and Yukon. Statistics Canada only enters into section 11 agreements with provincial statistical agencies that have statistics acts similar to the federal act. These agencies have the authority to collect this information and the same provisions for confidentiality and penalties for disclosure of information as the Federal Statistics Act.

Under section 12 of the Statistics Act, Statistics Canada has entered into data sharing agreements with the Prince Edward Island Department of the Provincial Treasury, the Northwest Territories Bureau of Statistics, the Nunavut Bureau of Statistics, the Yukon Bureau of Statistics and Natural Resources Canada. The agreements we have with these agencies require that they keep the information confidential and use it only for statistical and research purposes. Under section 12, respondents may object to the sharing of their information with any of these agencies by giving notice in writing to the Chief Statistician and by returning their letter of objection along with the completed questionnaire in the enclosed envelope.

Further to the section 12 agreement with the Saskatchewan Department of Energy and Mines, Statistics Canada is collecting the information for itself pursuant to the Statistics Act and on behalf of the Saskatchewan Department of Energy and Mines pursuant to The Mineral Resources Act (Saskatchewan). In this case, respondents do not have the right to object to sharing their information since the party to the Agreement is authorized by law to require the respondent to provide the information.
