This national survey, which is sponsored by the Secretary of State of Canada, is used for the development of a detailed literacy profile of the adult Canadian population. Of special interest is the identification of groups in Canadian society whose literacy skill levels place them at highest risk.

Data sources and methodology
This is a sample survey with a cross-sectional design.
Responding to this survey is voluntary.
Data are collected directly from survey respondents.
