As per the Agreements of the Department of Canada Heritage with the provinces and territories regarding minority-language education and second-language instruction (English in Quebec and French for the rest of the provinces), Statistics Canada is to gather and process data necessary to administer contributions under infrastructure support. Under these Agreements, the contributions for the postsecondary component are derived based on the number of students enrolled in minority-language programs or courses, and in Teacher training programs or courses which prepare students to teach in the minority-language or the second-language. The data will be used to calculate contributions to the provinces for enrolments in minority-language programs at the postsecondary level.

Data sources and methodology
Statistics Canada is prohibited by law from releasing any information it collects which could identify any person, business, or organization, unless consent has been given by the respondent or as permitted by the Statistics Act. Various confidentiality rules are applied to all data that are released or published to prevent the publication or disclosure of any information deemed confidential. If necessary, data are suppressed to prevent direct or residual disclosure of identifiable data.
No public use microdata file will be produced by Statistics Canada and data will not be made available through the Data Liberation Initiative (DLI).
