Statistics Canada is conducting a test of new survey modules on mental health stigma and discrimination. In addition to the new modules, the test questionnaire includes Canadian Community Health Survey modules on general health, health status, income and sociodemographic characteristics.

Data release - This was a test of a new module for the CCHS questionnaire (see record number 3226).

Description

Statistics Canada is currently developing new content on stigma and discrimination associated with mental illnesses. As such, we will be conducting a test of new survey modules. In addition to the new modules, the test questionnaire includes Canadian Community Health Survey modules on general health, health status, income, and sociodemographic characteristics. This test is conducted in the context of the Policy on the Review and Testing of Questionnaires.

Data from the test will be used to analyze the psychometric properties of the survey instruments and to determine the modifications to improve the instruments before being considered as future content in population health surveys at Statistics Canada.

Data sources and methodology

Target population

The target population for this test will be people aged 18 years and over in Ontario and Québec.

Instrument design

In addition to the new stigma and discrimination module, the test questionnaire includes Canadian Community Health Survey modules on general health, health status and sociodemographic characteristics. This test is conducted in the context of the Policy on the Review and Testing of Questionnaires.

Sampling

The survey frame for the test will come from the Canadian Community Health Survey (CCHS) Cycle 4.1 - 2007). The raw sample size is approximately 800 units.

Data sources

Data collection for this reference period: 2008-05-08 to 2008-06-02

Responding to this survey is voluntary.

Data are collected directly from survey respondents.

Respondents will be interviewed using a computer assisted telephone interview (CATI) system.

Statistics Canada is prohibited by law from releasing any information it collects which could identify any person, business, or organization, unless consent has been given by the respondent or as permitted by the Statistics Act. Various confidentiality rules are applied to all data that are released or published to prevent the publication or disclosure of any information deemed confidential. If necessary, data are suppressed to prevent direct or residual disclosure of identifiable data.

No public use microdata file will be produced by Statistics Canada and data will not be made available through the Data Liberation Initiative (DLI).
