Description
The Survey of "Doctoral Degree Recipients" collected information on doctoral degree recipients in Canada. The data were used by the Granting Councils, a group of federal agencies who administer grants for research in Canadian universities. This information was used to study trends in post-graduate education with respect to the utilization of their funds, the employment pattern for graduates under their programs, as well as research of socio-demographic characteristics of the graduates and a cost-analysis of the programs.

Data sources
Responding to this survey is voluntary.
Data are collected directly from survey respondents.
Annually collect information on Ph. D. graduates who completed the requirements for their degree in a specific calendar year at a Canadian university. Data elements collected include: (1) major field of study (Ph. D. degree and others); (2) institution awarding degree; (3) year study started and degree obtained; (4) sources of financial support during doctoral program; (5) postgraduation plans; (6) areas of employment; (7) sex and age; (8) citizenship status and family status.
