Reference period of change - 2007

Target population - As of reference year 2007, the industry classification is based on the North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) 2007.

Reference period of change - 2006

Starting with reference year 2006, this survey became an industry-based sample survey entitled "Annual Survey of Service Industries: Personal Services". It is now conducted by Service Industries Division, as part of the Unified Enterprise Surveys programme.

Reference period of change - 2005

Instrument design - In 2005, in order to reduce respondent burden, smaller firms received a characteristics questionnaire (shortened version), which excluded the revenue and expense modules. For these firms, revenue and expense data are extracted from administrative files. Firms which operate in more than one industry or province received a full questionnaire.

Reference period of change - 2002

Target population - As of reference year 2002 the industry classification is based on the North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) 2002.

Reference period of change - 2001

Data sources - " Beginning in 2001, administrative data was used in place of survey questionnaires for selected single-establishment enterprises to further reduce response burden.

Reference period of change - 1998

From 1982 to 1996 the industry classification was based on Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) and 1997 onwards based on the North American Industry Classification System (NAICS).
