Reference period of change - 2008-2009 (Cycle 6)

Beginning with Cycle 6, data are collected from the Reading Cohort (15 year-olds) only.

Only those who responded in Cycle 5 were re-contacted in Cycle 6. The resulting sample size was 11,001.

Reference period of change - January 2008 to April 2009 (Cycle 5.5: Reading Skills Reassessment)

Cycle 5.5 is a special one-time Reading Skills reasessement.

For Cycle 5.5, due to time restrictions, the questionnaire component is not directly comparable to previous collection instruments used in the Youth in Transition Survey.

Reference period of change - 2006-2007 (Cycle 5)

Among the Reading Cohort (15 year-olds) and the 18 to 20 year-old cohort, only those who were recontacted and responded in Cycle 4 were re-contacted in Cycle 5. The resulting sample size was 18,762 for the 15 year-old Reading Cohort (15 year-olds) and 12,360 for the 18 to 20 year-old cohort.

Reference period of change - 2004-2005 (Cycle 4)

Modules C, D and F were removed as the age of the respondents no longer required collection of information on high school for the majority of respondents.

Among the Reading Cohort (15 year-olds) and the 18 to 20 year-old cohort, only those who were recontacted and responded in Cycle 3 were recontacted in Cycle 4. The resulting sample size was 22,626 for the 15 year-old Reading Cohort (15 year-olds) and 14,753 for the 18 to 20 year-old cohort.

Reference period of change - 2002-2003 (Cycle 3)

Instrument design - Module U was redesigned regarding respondent's siblings (questions removed) and dependent children.

Sampling - Among the Reading Cohort (15 year-olds) and the 18 to 20 year-old cohort, only those who responded in Cycle 2 were recontacted in Cycle 3. The resulting sample size was 26,854 for the Reading Cohort (15 year-olds) and 18,743 for the 18 to 20 year-old cohort.

Reference period of change - 2000-2001 (Cycle 2)

Beginning with Cycle 2, data for the Reading Cohort (formerly record number 5058) are collected with this survey.

In Cycle 2, the survey application was reprogrammed from the software «CASES »to «BLAISE» software application. Although the layout and style of the questionnaire was different to meet BLAISE standards the questionnaire structure (modules, flows, edits, coding) was similar to the original version.

Among the Reading Cohort (15 year-olds) and the 18 to 20 year-old cohort, only those who responded in Cycle 1 were recontacted in Cycle 2. The resulting sample size was 29,660 for the Reading Cohort (15 year-olds) and 22,352 for the 18 to 20 year-old cohort.
