Reference period of change - taxation year 2008

As of taxation year 2008, this survey has changed from a sample to a census, which covers individuals who completed a T1 tax return for the reference year by the date the file was sent to Statistics Canada.

Target population - The survey has changed from sample to a census based.

Reference period of change - taxation year 2004

As of taxation year 2004, this programme is called "Retirement Savings Data".

In the past, a longitudinal file was created (Pension adjustment/Registered retirement savings plans file). For this release, a series of cross-sectional files were produced. Because changes were made to the methodology for selecting of the sample, the data in these new cross-sectional files will differ slightly from previously published data.

Data for this release include cross-sectional data only and cover the biennial period 1992 to 2004. Data for 1992 to 2002 are final and preliminary for 2004.

Reference period of change - taxation year 1999

Revisions and seasonal adjustment - Each year, the PA/RRSP file was updated by adding, to the information on each taxfiler, the preliminary data for the most recent tax year and updated data for the previous tax year. Starting with 1999 tax year, there will be no revision as the data will reflect the most up-to-date information.
