Reference period of change - January 2017

Instrument design - New Collection Method: An electronic questionnaire (EQ) replaced the paper questionnaire with the January 2017 reference month.

Reduced Content: In an effort to help reduce response burden, the following content was removed from the Monthly Civil Aviation Survey beginning in January 2017
• Enplaned goods, goods tonne-kilometres and available tonne-kilometres for charter services
• Revenue for scheduled and charter services
• Total operating expenses, interest expenses and interest income
• Respondents are no longer asked to report for year to date data

Estimation - Imputation

• Estimates are produced using the Generalized Edit and Imputation System (Banff) and the Generalized Estimation System (G-Est). The survey uses G-Est to produce its domain estimates and quality indicators.
• A generalized system (G-Confid) is used to assess and apply disclosure control to the tabular estimates.

Reference period of change - January 2015

Starting January 2015, aggregate data are released for the entire population. Before January 2015, results for some carriers were published with their consent.
