Reference period of change - 2021

The Farm Management Survey was modified with new questions further detailing subjects such as fertilizer use, farm land characteristics, and pesticide application. To reduce response burden some questions were also removed to maintain a similar questionnaire length.

Reference period of change - 2017

The Farm Environmental Management Survey was renamed the Farm Management Survey and the questionnaire was completely redesigned to include new data needs. To reduce response burden the redesigned questionnaire was divided into two modules: one for crop and one for livestock. In addition, new content was added specifically for each of seven targeted subsectors: dairy, beef, poultry, pig, field crops, forage crops and vegetable, fruit, berry and nut crops.

Instrument design - The Farm Environmental Management Survey questionnaire was completely redesigned to include new data needs. To reduce response burden the redesigned questionnaire was divided into two modules: one for crop and one for livestock.

Sampling - In 2006, the sample was stratified by 27 different sub-provincial regions (ecoregions) defined by similar agronomic, climatic and soil attributes in the Canadian eco-stratification system.
