Income and Financial Data of Individuals, Preliminary T1 Family File

Summary of changes

Activity on this program started: 1982

Reference period of change - 2022

Starting with 2022 income data, some components included total income are derived using the Administrative Personal Income Masterfile to improve their precision. Comparison of variables related to total income between 2022 and prior years' data should be done with caution. The new methodology does not impact the values of charitable donations; RRSP contributions; and wages, salaries and commissions but may have an impact on the statistics related to total income included in the tables produced with the preliminary T1 Family File.

In 2022, the Canada Workers Lockdown Benefit program was the only COVID-19-related program still in effect to financially support Canadiens. Nevertheless, several governmental programs offering COVID-19 government income support and benefits in 2020 and 2021 have paid financial support retroactively in 2022 and are thus included in total income. In 2022, all COVID-19 benefits have been included in total income under other government transfers.

Reference period of change - 2021

For 2021, COVID-19 - Government income support programs and benefits have been included in total income. They are included within the following income sources:
• Pension income;
• Provincial Refundable Tax Credits/Family Benefits; and

More detail information regarding these will be included in the summer/fall releases of the T1FF 2021 final data.
