Reference period of change - 2016

Instrument design - Changes were driven by ISED request and were primarily the deletion of questions. One question was added to bolster data collected on Research and Development.

Reference period of change - 2014

Target population - For 2014, the survey included only enterprises that had sales of goods or services related to the defence, aerospace and marine sectors. The industrial security sector was dropped for 2014.

Sampling - Survey frame

The survey frame was adjusted from the previous iteration by removing any enterprises were in-scope in 2011 only because they reported activities in the industrial security sector, as well as any enterprise that was determined to be out-of-scope in 2011. Furthermore, enterprises that Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada identified as potentially being in-scope for the current iteration were added to the target population.
