Farm Cash Receipts (FCR)

Summary of changes

Activity on this program started: 1926

Reference period of change - third quarter 2023

Beginning with the November 2023 release, Farm Cash Receipts data for eggs in shell contain data on specialty eggs in British Columbia, going back to the January 2017 reference period.

The November 2023 release also included Intercensal Revisions, incorporating revised data back to January 2017.

Reference period of change - second quarter 2022

Beginning with the August 2022 release of Farm Cash Receipts, Pig Trace was incorporated into the farm cash receipt estimates for hog receipts. For more information on this new methodology that the Livestock team has adopted which includes the Pig Trace Program, please see: Surveys and statistical programs - Biannual Livestock Survey (statcan.gc.ca)

Reference period of change - third quarter 2019

The commodity cannabis receipts is published as a separate category for the first time in Farm Cash Receipts. During the 2016 Intercensal revision exercise, cannabis became a new line item. Previously cannabis data (medicinal) had been included under the category of "miscellaneous crop". With the legalization of recreational cannabis in October 2018, it was decided that the cannabis receipts would become a separate line item.

Reference period of change - first quarter 2012

Farm cash receipts data are now released semi-annually - in May and November - instead of quarterly. For example, data for the second and third quarters of 2012 will be released in November 2012, and those for the fourth quarter of 2012 and the first quarter of 2013 will be released in May 2013.
