Labour Productivity Measures - Provinces and Territories (Annual)

Summary of changes

Activity on this program started: 2002

Reference period of change - 2019

Revised data on provincial and territorial labour productivity and related measures from 2016 to 2019 are now available.

These revisions are consistent with those incorporated in the provincial and territorial economic accounts and the provincial and territorial gross domestic product (GDP) by industry (released on November 9, 2020). They are also consistent with those incorporated in the national GDP by industry (released on December 1, 2020).

Revised estimates also take into account historical revisions to the Survey of Employment, Payrolls and Hours (released on March 27, 2020). They also incorporate the new 2017 benchmark provincial and territorial supply and use tables as well as revised data on interprovincial flows from 2016 to 2019 in order to harmonize data on the mobility of workers between provinces with tax data.

It should be noted that this release does not take into account recent revisions from the Labour Force Survey (released on January 25, 2021). The incorporation of the historical revisions of the LFS is scheduled for February 2022, with the next release of revised data.

Reference period of change - 2018

Revised data on provincial and territorial labour productivity and related measures from 1997 to 2018 are now available.

These revisions are consistent with those incorporated in the provincial and territorial economic accounts and the provincial and territorial gross domestic product (GDP) by industry (released on November 7, 2019). They are also consistent with those incorporated in the national GDP by industry (released on November 29, 2019.)

This release also takes into account historical revisions to the Survey of Employment, Payrolls and Hours (released on March 27, 2019) and some improvements to the imputation methodology for the estimation of average hours worked and wage rates. Additionally, with this release, annual estimates include the economic activities related to cannabis industries. In this respect, starting in 2014, the crop production industry (part of the agriculture, forestry, fishing and hunting sector), as well as the miscellaneous store retailers industry (part of the retail trade sector), include the activities related to cannabis.

They are also consistent with those incorporated in the national GDP by industry, released on November 30, 2018. In addition, the year 2012 has been adopted as a reference year instead of 2007 for real GDP data and related series (including productivity and unit labour costs).
