Activities of Foreign Majority-Owned Affiliates in Canada

Summary of changes

Activity on this program started: 2010

Reference period of change - 2017

In 2019, the Activities of Foreign Majority-Owned Affiliates in Canada program was expanded and renamed as the Activities of Multinational Enterprises in Canada.

The Activities of Multinational Enterprises in Canada still includes data on the activities of foreign majority-owned affiliates in Canada (foreign multinational enterprises) while expanding to incorporate data on the domestic activities of Canadian-owned multinational enterprises (Canadian multinational enterprises).

The program now also provides information on the full Canadian economy, including a breakdown between the corporate sector (with components being foreign multinational enterprises, Canadian multinational enterprises and non-multinational enterprises) and the non-corporate sector.

An interactive tool allowing users to quickly, easily and efficiently browse the wide variety of information available on the Activities of Multinational Enterprises in Canada has now become available. The interactive tool presents information on activities of multinational enterprises at the international and national level. At the international level, users can see the importance of foreign multinationals on the Canadian economy as well as the similar role of Canadian multinationals in foreign economies, by country. At the national level, information on activities of multinational enterprises in Canada are included, by type of multinationals, province and industry. Activities include a number of selected variables such as number of enterprises, number of jobs, assets, operating revenues, international merchandise trade and gross domestic product.
