2014-2015:

This survey program has changed since it was last published in July 2012 for reference years 2010-2011. The previous version was a census annual survey program with a longitudinal design, whereas the newer release is a census with a cross-sectional design which fully uses administrative data and does not include a survey mail-out portion. Previously, provincial and territorial ministries of health and/or social services were annually requested to update the inventory of residential care facilities, whereas the newer release is maintained by the Business Registrar using the North American Industry Classification System (NAICS 2012) during the reference year.

Reference period of change - 2004-2005

Imputation - In 2004, many residential-care facilities in Quebec became part of a newly created Centre de santé et de services sociaux (CSSS). Since many of these CSSS likely included a variety of other services, such as hospital(s), out-patient services and social services facilities, estimation and imputation methods had to be changed from that used in the previous year.Hence, data for Quebec and Canada for 2004/2005 and subsequent years are not comparable with data for previous years.

Reference period of change - 2003-2004

Data for fiscal year 2003/2004 include correction for non-response for the first time. Previous publications, from fiscal years 1984/1985 to 1993/1994, only reported data from reporting facilities. As of fiscal year 2003/2004 data on Residential Care Facilities are available on CANSIM for all years starting with 1984/1985 except for fiscal years 1994/1995 and 1995/1996 for which no data are available.
