Pollution prevention methods of establishment, category

Pollution prevention methods refers to the technologies, equipment, or processes used by the establishment to reduce or eliminate pollution and/or waste at the source, that is, before the pollution or waste is created. Examples include: the installation of more efficient processes that consume less energy or inputs; the redesign or reformulation of the production process to reduce pollution or emissions; and reuse, recirculation or recycling of materials on-site. Excluded is the sending of materials off-site for recycling.

Establishment refers to the level at which accounting data required to measure production is available (principal inputs, revenues, salaries and wages). The establishment, as a statistical unit, is defined as the most homogeneous unit of production for which the business maintains accounting records from which it is possible to assemble all the data elements required to compile the full structure of the gross value of production (total sales or shipments, and inventories), the cost of materials and services, and labour and capital used in production.
