Incarceration rate of population, ratio

Incarceration rate refers to the number of persons being in sentenced custody, remand, pre-trial detention or other temporary detention per 100,000 adults or per 10,000 youth.

Population refers to the total membership, based on specific characteristics, of a group of people, objects or events at a given time and within a particular geographic area.
